4 weeks old!

Little Luke is 4 weeks old today! With a lot of help from my mom and other wonderful friends and family we have made it this far. What a learning process this has been. We just love our little grunter. :) He has been such a sweet baby and I can't thank Heavenly Father enough for sending me such a sweetheart while I am trying to finish school. Only 8 weeks left and I will be a college graduate!!
As everyone may have seen from the video we posted on Facebook... Luke rolled over when he was only 20 days old. Since then tummy time only lasts for about a minute before he rolls over. I tell you what it didn't take us long to learn who the new boss is at our house. He doesn't want anything to do with tummy time and that is that. :)
Today was also monumental because his little umbilical cord stump finally fell off. I was starting to think he was going to hold on to that forever. So in another week he can finally have his first bath. That should be something to post about!
I love to just take pictures one after another on my iPod because he pulls the funniest faces one after another. He definitely keeps us entertained. And here is just one picture I took today at 4 weeks!

Baby Luke is here!!

What an experience! We are so happy to have our little guy here. And here is the story...

On Wednesday January 18th I went to class like any other day, it is a 4 hour long class in the same room, and I was feeling the weirdest stomach pains. Until that time I hadn't felt any pain like that and since I didn't know what contractions felt like I had NO idea what was going on. It took me until 1AM in the morning to finally believe that those "weird stomach pains" were actually contractions. Anyway, I kept going through the day feeling these pains and I had my routine doctor's appointment at 3PM. I went and told the doctor about the pains I was feeling and he said it must be some pre-labor thing going on because nothing had changed from the week before. He told me that if I didn't go into labor before 41 weeks then we would start talking about an induction.
At this point I thought I would never go into labor. Here I was feeling all this pressure and these pains and yet NOTHING had changed. The day continued and I kept doing my homework and the pains kept getting stronger and stronger. So Dustin said we should time them... sure enough they were about a minute long and about 5 minutes apart. But I REFUSED to believe they were contractions because of what had happened at the doctor. So... I just kept doing my homework through the pain until I finally accepted that there was no way I would ever be able to sleep through the pains so at 1AM we went to the hospital and what do you know... I was admitted!
Now that was a surreal moment. The nurse asked me if I wanted an epidural and I just asked if I could get one at that point and she said of course so I said... "send him in!" I think epidurals are heaven sent until they wear off. For about 3 or 4 hours I felt great but then it started to wear off and I never had full relief after that. Also considering he was posterior (his head was facing up) I had insane amounts of back pain. Wow. That really hurt. Then it was just the waiting game. I dilated about 1 cm each hour until I got to an 8 and then it just like jumped from an 8 to a 10 and the doctor was ready to get me pushing. After about 1 hour and 40 minutes of pushing and Dustin patiently counting from 1 to 10... Luke was born!
That made it 12 hours of total labor. He was born on January 19th at 1:03pm and he weighed 7 lbs 10 oz. and was 20 inches long. I still can't believe he was somehow fitting inside of me. He had the cutest rolls and he has been an absolute sweetheart from that moment. :)

Today he is 2 weeks old. He has done so well. He had to get over some jaundice which stressed me out but he handled it like a champ. He has seriously been an angel these past two weeks. He hasn't exactly mastered the whole idea of sleeping in his crib at night but I have decided I will cut him a little slack. He pulls the funniest faces, loves to grunt, and kick off his socks. We love to stare at him, hold him, and snuggle.
We are getting by on a lot less sleep than we are used to. I have only hallucinated a couple times at night so I feel I'm not doing too bad. haha... Two nights ago my grandma was staying with us and I went out to her bed rocking what I thought was Luke in my arms and told her she could take him and get him back to sleep. She looked at me and told me he was sleeping in the swing and I looked down at my arms and realized I wasn't holding anything. I definitely went back to sleep after that. Whew... sleep deprivation is quite the state to be in. :)

We just love our little sweetheart. He is getting used to his mommy smothering him with kisses. I am so excited because I don't have school tomorrow so I can stay home with him all day and maybe even get in a nap! What a thought. But now that I am finally caught up with my assignments in school I feel that the sky is the limit! He is already changing and growing so much and we feel excited and blessed to have him with us.
And... that's the story!

January

38 weeks

This is the big month! We are trying to just act natural every day and not focus on the fact that any day we could be headed to the hospital. Everything seems to be going fine and so we are just getting anxious to meet our little boy. His little bag is packed and the car seat is in. We are ready to go! I went to the doctor on Friday and I am dilated to a 0. Yep. He told me that they would wait until I am a week overdue before they would induce me so no matter what come the end of this month he is getting kicked out. (with love...) We have been making the most of each day, spending quality time together, and sleeping in because all that will soon come to an end...
January 2 marked two years since our first date! We celebrated by going out to Olive Garden and watched The Help. Dustin had given me the book The Help for my birthday and I read it in under 2 days because it was so fabulous and the movie was super good too. I recommend it!
Now school is back in full swing with quizzes galore. I have a test already coming up this month! Everything happens so fast. We have let our teachers know that one day we will be gone and so they have the heads up. BYU is pretty understanding with making up work from having a baby so we are grateful for that.
We are excited about this new year and all the it holds in store. I am sure there will be many challenges but with that comes blessings and good times as well. Each year we love the time we are able to spend with our family and friends and we are so grateful for the wonderful examples in our lives.
Next post will be Baby Hanson's debut so...
STAY TUNED!!

Locks of Love

For the past month I have been looking at my split ends thinking, "Wow, I need to get my hair trimmed!" Then yesterday my thoughts started changing and I decided it was time for a new look. :) So, at about 6:00pm I headed off to Great Clips and cut off 11 inches and donated it to Locks of Love. Best part is that when you donate your hair Great Clips will cut it and mail in your donation for free!

Locks of Love is an organization that takes hair donations of 10 inches or more. This is my 5th time doing it. :) When I realized it was my 5th time I was in shock at how fast time flies by! The girl who cut my hair was super nice and I think she did a good job. She was in awe at how much hair I had so she tried to thin it out as much as she could too. And... here is my new look!

Before

After
Dustin started making me laugh so I couldn't look at the camera. But... here I am!

**Happy Birthday Dustin!**

I wanted to wish a Happy Birthday to my wonderful husband! He has been the most wonderful blessing in my life and I love him with all my heart. :) At midnight he opened my present because I couldn't wait any longer... and it was a bunch of Blue-Ray DVD's including: The Lion King, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, AND Star Wars: The Complete Saga! Yay. We are both pretty excited about our new movie collection. :) As soon as the birthday boy finishes working the party will continue. So far it has been cinnamon rolls for breakfast that he has requested and the rest of the day promises to be amazing! He is so sweet and wonderful to me everyday and I couldn't have asked for a better companion to spend eternity with. Yay. Eternity with Dustin has the perfect ring to it! :) Now I better get back to spoiling the birthday boy.

**Happy Birthday Dustin!!**

Scattered Thoughts

I am officially losing my marbles... today I spent about 1/2 hour looking for my wallet to find I had left it in a grocery sack in my closet. Ya... that was hard to find. :)
Yesterday Dustin and I had to write an 8 page paper for our New Testament and miraculously we got it done and now only finals stand in our way of a glorious Christmas Break. Last night we made chocolate dipped hot cocoa spoons. It was fun! Dustin is such a good sport to do random crafty things with me. :)
I can't believe it is December 10th... I am determined to get something amazing and unique for Dustin for Christmas but I don't feel like I am a very creative gift giver... some people have that skill and I feel like I am lame. But not this year! If anyone has any ideas send me a message!
The pregnant life is okay other than trying to sleep. I have started to get sore shoulders from sleeping on my sides. It is weird. I could really use a good nights sleep on my stomach but it just doesn't work. haha... We signed up for a Labor and Delivery class at the hospital and had our first session on Thursday night. It wasn't too intense. They talked about all the different options that come up in the stages of labor and how to know which decisions you want to make. It is starting to feel very real to me the fact that in a matter of weeks I will be in labor and then recovering... just the thought made me tired but I am comforted in the fact that millions of women have done this, so I should be okay. :)
Not much else is up around here but we hope everyone is having a good December!

Sweepstakes Winner!!

Really... I thought sweepstakes and drawings were somehow rigged... I had never actually met someone who had WON a sweepstakes. Well, I should have known that Dustin would be the person to win. :) I guess he sent in a text or filled out something online a few months back for the Sprint Legends Sweepstake.
As the winners... we won: 2 free tickets to the BYU vs. New Mexico Football game with field access and also the seats were up in the suites! (I had never been up there but now I know why people get into that kind of thing!) Tucanos catered Dinner and snacks/drinks galore were provided. AND... we got to watch the game with Chad Lewis (previous BYU football player who played professional for the Eagles) and two signed footballs (Jimmer's signature was a bonus!) and free backpacks from the suite sponsor... gee. I hope I am remembering it all! Needless to say we felt pretty special by the end of the game!
One part that we found funny is there was absolutely NO advertising for Sprint the whole time. No one tried to sell us a cell phone or anything like that... we just met an advertising rep who had flown in from Kansas City and he gave us our lanyards and watched the game with us. Super nice guy. And then after it was all over... we just said bye as we left the gates and walked to our car. It seemed dreamlike. Seriously, no strings attached. We just said "thank you" and left with our loot. TO MAKE THE STORY EVEN BETTER: I found $10 abandoned on the sidewalk on the way home. So basically we made money. haha...
We seriously had so much fun! Chad Lewis was super fun to talk to and Dustin had a really good time talking football with him while I tried to take some good pictures! We met a reporter named Jay Drew who covers a ton of BYU sports and some other really fun people. :) Everyone just treated us like we were part of the crew! Well, that is enough of that... let's get to the pictures!
The cool view from our suite!

Cougar Tail anyone?
